The first step in maintaining the cleanliness of your cold plunge water is rinsing off well before getting in your plunge; makeup, soap, lotions, and oils from your body will affect the sanitation of the water. Only wear a swimsuit in your plunge, anything else is not recommended. Lint and laundry detergent soap will come off your clothing, causing the water to get dirty faster.
The next step is to choose a water maintenance method; we do recommend using some kind of sanitation method for your cold plunge. We offer two options: Ozone and Sirona.
Ozone is a great chemical-free option ~ with Ozone, a generator attaches to the back of your cold plunge tub, releasing ozone into the water daily using an air pump. Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent which when dissolved in water, produces a broad spectrum biocide that helps eliminate bacteria and viruses; ozone for water treatment has been used since 1904. See also our Ozone FAQs. Ozone runs automatically daily making it a hands off maintenance option.
Our Sirona Water Maintenance Kit is a chlorine free and bromine free product that you’ll add to your cold plunge water based on weekly testing (pH strips and testing info included). This is a stronger cleaning agent that is ideal if there are a number of people regularly using your cold plunge. There is more info about testing and Sirona use on our maintenance and care page.
With use of Ozone or Sirona, you will only need to drain and refill you cold plunge once every three months.
